When I first walked down those lovely stairs many years ago when I first moved to Battery Park City 17 years ago, it was exhilarating. The staircase is indeed iconic. I think the destruction of Pennsylvania Stations is a very apt analogy. Agree with Betty Heller. Destroying it would be an act of vandalism akin to the destruction of the Pennsylvania Railroad Station. Brookfield has been a remarkably good guardian of this precious space until now.
